So, back in my 20s, there was this guy I really looked up to.
He seemed to have everything figured out—big-shot attorney, great house, loving wife, and a family straight out of a magazine.
From where I stood, he seemed to have it all.
But then something happened.
His life just went off the rails. And I really don’t know what happened.
He lost his marriage, got disbarred, and ended up moving far away.
It didn’t make any sense.
And for years, I’ve wondered why I still think about him.
Did he deliberately torch his own life? Did he go down the wrong path?
Or was it the money?
Cause…lawyers can make a killing from big cases.
But there are tons of wealthy folks who don’t self-destruct like that.
So, it was an open-ended question that never got an answer.
But as I look back and think about it now, he taught me something quite valuable.
It’s that real success isn’t about flashy cars or impressing people.
Those things come and go, and chasing them is often how good people lose their way.
I’m not saying that’s what happened to him, I really don’t know.
But real, lasting success is much quieter than all that.
It’s showing up every day and doing what needs to be done.
Even when nobody sees you.
Because those shortcuts? They will show up.
They’ll look like opportunity.
They’ll feel like relief.
But they’re bait. And without a game plan—a real plan—you’ll take the hook.
That’s why building a foundation for your business the right way is so vital.
It’s not just about starting strong—it’s about staying the course when life starts to lean on you.
Don’t get me wrong, money matters.
We all need money as a buffer against whatever life throws our way.
But your foundation should never be compromised by shortcuts or promises of EASY money offered by people of questionable character.
It’s a much too dangerous route to take.
No…the true winners are those who can keep a picture in their mind of why they started their towing business in the first place.
Was it to show the world that you’re somebody? Or to provide a life for your family?
Because if your family falls apart, well, does any of that stuff really matter?
So, the reality is, I learned a lot from the guy. And who knows, maybe he finally figured it out and has put his life back together.
I hope so.
Life has some twists and turns and if you’re not grounded you can get lost along the way.
Just two cents worth of thinking from a guy who’s still trying to figure it all out.
