It’s What You Say

Have you ever stood in line waiting for service, maybe at a fast food restaurant or boarding a plane? We all go through these minor inconveniences. But what makes it worse is when it's finally your turn to be helped and the "customer service representative", the one who's running the show, treats you as an inconvenience. For whatever reason he or she treats paying customers horribly.

And How They Feel

If they only knew that the words they use and the way they treat customers is directly related to their compensation they might treat customers differently. Yep, it's true how you talk and what you say to your customers has an effect on the money you make. When you care you're memorable, and when you're memorable you'll be referred. Yes the next time your customer or someone they know needs help they'll remember you- Because of how you made them feel.

You Are Not Alone

The worst feeling in the world is that of being alone and in need. Unfortunately many in the towing business are reluctant to lend a hand to their fellow towers. Their fear of scarcity causes them to play their cards close to the vest. But they’re only harming themselves. As the newbie is cutoff from all […]…

What’s a Tow Boss Looking for when Hiring Drivers

I’ve made some horrible hiring decisions in the past. I once hired a young man who was born and bred into the towing business. I mean…he must have caused his mother considerable pain during the birthing process, because I swear he was born with a recovery chain wrapped around his neck. He was a great […]…

Forget About the Small Stuff, Find Your Customer’s Biggest Pain

Stepping out of my office to check a tire on one of the trucks, I raised my reading glasses and let them rest on top of my head. As I bent forward to get a better look, they slipped from my head and into a nearby pan we use for changing oil. Of course […]…

Closing the Gap Between What You’re Selling and What They Want

In the last video I talked about three types of customers available to the towing industry. In this video I’m going to talk about the difference between what you want to sell and what your cash customers want to buy, and how to close the gap. Towers are truckcentric. What I mean is…we love our…

Repair Shops Have A Choice

One of your best customers, Auto Repair Shops, should not be taken for granted. Just because you’re friends with the mechanics, and when you tow one in you get the car there in one piece, doesn’t mean you own them.  You must take great care to nurture each of those relationships. The only way […]…

Turning Repair Shop Owners Into Customers

The rain is falling and I’m looking forward to another busy day here. Drive-time and wet streets always make for a powerful combination. But once the rush passes we’ll be waiting for regular customers to call. The towing business is tough. We’re similar to EMT’s and Firefighters in that business is good when things go…

Every Minute Counts When Responding to Accidents

With traffic moving at 70 mph, any obstruction in the road can be a prescription for danger. But it doesn’t have to be in the road to cause a hazard. A stalled vehicle left roadside, an accident or an emergency vehicle can cause drivers to be distracted and bring traffic to a halt. That’s […]…

When Building your Business you don’t Have to Change the World

Doug lived in a quiet little subdivision on the west side of town. He worked for A-1 towing company for a little over a year. He’d moved up quickly, due to his hard work and eagerness to learn, so the boss asked if he would participate in the on-call calendar. On-call participation would mean […]…
